Samsung soundbar volume keeps goes down by itself

Chosen Solution

To all those who have this problem and who will have this issue in the future, I finally now have the solution which can be done all by yourself. Firstly, two things tend to happen with some samsung dvd players and tvs. One, they either switch off all on their own, or two, the volume goes down to Volmin all on its own. To fix this, search no further! What you must do is open up the case of the dvd player by unscrewing the 6 screws at the back. Then lift off cover. Then with a small flathead screw driver flip off the front facia touch panel. You will see two small brown ribbons. You must detach them both by pulling them out of its tiny socket. One of them is a sensor for the On/Off switch. The other is a sensor for the volume up/down switch. Once you have taken those two ribbons off (at either end), put the front facia clippe back in place. Then put the top cover back on with the 6 screws. Thats it! All your sound problems solved.

Ive spent countless hours searching, many times dismantling the dvd player, and have FINALLY come to this solution. Believe me it works, anyone can do it. And it will save you lots of money by not sending it to a repairman. I hope this helps many people and saves them hours of frustration!!

Fyi I am posting for those that may still experience issues with a Samsung receiver auto voluming off. There are many diff models and mine did not fully seem like one posted as I only had 4 screws on back. I had a system given to me Samsung blu-ray 3d player 7.1 surround sound. Took back 4 screws off and lifted cover off. Faceplate had 3 to 4 tabs on top 3 on bottom and 2 between both sides lift those over locking parts slides right off. Followed volume censor to mobo and found the one wire connecting it pulled it out and put it back together no more auto voluming down. No need to do power. It did work and appreciate the original poster as the idea is sound. Must be an issue with the touch sensor registering touches when not touched.

It worked fine on mine but you can only use the remote to activate any functions. It does disable all the buttons on the front of the unit. I disconnected both small brown ribbons 4 years ago and it still works fine but ONLY using the

I have 7.1 CH Blu-ray Samsung Homes Entertainment System, it had the same problem of automatic Volmin. I followed the above instructions it worked, but I took off only one ribbon and it did not loose any functionality i .e even the touchy buttons are all working problem. I think this sensor has to do with dysfunctional Dynamic Range Control that enables one to listen at low volumes but still hear dialog clearly

I founded the real solution. The volume knob on the dvd player is the reason for the problem. Turn down the volume to 0 make sure to feel the clicks on the knob. When you have reached 0 stop. Turn your volume knob once untill you feel one click. The volume wont go up to 1. The reason for this is to have a dj effect. A better way to explain to you guys having this problem. Between volume 0 and 1 is 2 clicks. When it is exactly on volume 0 it is minus, one click up is normal and one more click is high. Which means when it is on minus it wil slowly go down. Normal will stay the same volume and high will slowly higher your volume. Make sure it is on normal. It is just an extra feature of dvd/ blu-ray players. Hope you guys find this useful.

I don't have a dvd player hooked up and my unit is HW 4540 Samsung but found if you go to the back of the sound bar and manually increase the volume it will reset itself .The volume will start working again( did for me) The remote will not increase it or decrease untill you go tothe back and do it manually. All fucntions are working back to normal again Hope this helps

Dan

I detached the two brown ribbons and then nothing worked at all! Had to re-attach them. Haven’t tried it to see if that fixed the volmin problem or not, but I will.

My solution is that I just ordered a JBL 5.1 Soundbar as I think these older Samsung home theatre systems have blu-ray players that die in the dust!

My Samsung TV used a Samsung Soundbar that I got bundled with the TV, and it did its job most of the time, but recently, the soundbar started showing some issues.

The volume would cut out or go down without me doing anything, and it would always happen when I am watching something on the TV.

It was getting annoying the more times it happened, so I decided to go online to find out how I could fix the soundbar and its volume issues.

After several hours of reading through Samsung’s support pages and going through tons of user forum posts where people discussed my soundbar model, I felt I had enough information to attempt to fix the issue.

Using what I had learned, I finally managed to fix the soundbar, and this article is the culmination of my work that helped me fix the soundbar.

Hopefully, when you finish reading this article, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to fix a Samsung soundbar with volume troubles.

To fix a Samsung soundbar with audio issues, make sure the TV has the soundbar selected as its output. Also, make sure the HDMI and Digital audio outputs are in a format compatible with your system.

Continue reading to find out how to tweak the output format settings and learn how to disable your soundbar’s keys temporarily.

Check your TV’s Audio Output

If your Samsung Soundbar doesn’t seem to output any sound, you might need to check if your TV is outputting the audio to the soundbar and not the TV speakers.

To make sure the output is correctly selected:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to Sound > Sound Output.
  3. Select the soundbar and adjust the volume to see if the TV has made the switch.

You can also check under Additional Settings and tweak the more audio settings to help with the volume issues.

Connect to a Different Device and Then Back Again

You can also try connecting the soundbar to another device and connecting it back to your TV that you had started seeing the issues with.

The other device needs to be able to connect to the soundbar over HDMI or Bluetooth, so follow the steps that let you connect your soundbar to another device.

Once you connect the soundbar to the other device, disconnect it and reconnect it to the TV showing you the issue first.

Check for a Firmware Update on your Samsung Soundbar

Sometimes, out-of-date firmware can cause bugs or issues with the soundbar and cause it to lose volume or completely lose audio.

Fortunately, there is a way to update the firmware on your Samsung soundbar by following the steps below:

  1. Connect your soundbar to Wi-Fi using SmartThings.
  2. Unplug all audio devices, including the soundbar, subwoofer, and rear speakers, then plug them back in after waiting for 30 seconds.
  3. Launch SmartThings on your phone.
  4. Select your soundbar and tap the three dots on the top right of the screen.
  5. Go to Information > Firmware Update > Update Now.

After the firmware update finishes downloading and installing, check if you were able to fix the issues with the soundbar.

Check Bluetooth Connectivity

Ensure that you can find the soundbar over Bluetooth if you are having audio issues with the device.

If you can’t seem to find it over Bluetooth, then it might cause the soundbar’s audio issues.

The soundbar communicates with its other components like the subwoofer over Bluetooth, and if the connection is lost, you’ll start to see sound sync issues or volume issues.

To fix most issues with Bluetooth, try restarting the soundbar a couple of times.

Make sure there aren’t any objects near the soundbar that could interfere with the Bluetooth connection.

Choose the Right HDMI Audio Input Setting

You’ll also have to set the right HDMI audio input setting that best matches your hardware, or it might not play any audio through the soundbars.

To set the correct HDMI audio setting:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Select Expert Settings > HDMI Input Audio Format.
  3. Change its current setting to either Bitstream or PCM.

After changing this setting, check back on the soundbar and see if you resolved the issue you were having.

Choose the Right Digital Output Sound Setting

Choosing the right digital output setting is also really important so that the correct format that works with your TV and soundbar is used.

To set the right Digital output sound:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound.
  2. Select Advanced Settings > Digital Output Audio Format.
  3. Select any other setting besides the one already selected and see which one gives you the best experience. Only select PCM if you don’t have multiple speakers.

Check if the issue you were having with the soundbar was fixed by adjusting this setting.

Deactivate SRS TruVolume

If your Samsung TV supports SRS TruVolume, you might need to turn this feature off to simulate 5.1 surround sound without the equipment required for it.

You can turn this feature off from the Audio settings on your Samsung TV.

You won’t require this setting to be turned on anyway since your soundbar has all the speakers you need, and adjusting the volume is always better when done manually.

Soft Reset your Samsung Soundbar

Sometimes, audio issues with your Samsung soundbar can be fixed by soft resetting it or restarting it.

Doing this won’t reset the entire soundbar, so you won’t need to connect it with your TV again after you do it.

To soft reset your soundbar:

  1. Turn the soundbar off.
  2. Unplug it from the wall and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the soundbar back in.
  4. Turn it back on.

After the soundbar turns on, check if you fixed the audio issues.

You could repeat the soft reset a few more times if the first go didn’t seem to work.

Hard Reset your Samsung Soundbar

If nothing else works, you might need to hard reset your soundbar, and if it needs to be paired to your TV, you’ll have to do that again after the reset completes.

To factory reset your Samsung Soundbar:

  1. Turn the soundbar on with the remote or the button on the device.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the soundbar.
  3. Wait for INIT OK to appear on the display.
  4. Let go of the button to let the soundbar restart.

When the soundbar restarts, check the soundbar if the reset fixed the issue you were having with it.

Check the Volume Ribbon Cable in the interior

The controls on the body of the soundbar can get stuck for various reasons, so if it is the case for you as well, you can temporarily disconnect the ribbon cable until you find a better solution for the issue.

Unscrew the bottom panel of the soundbar and take the plastic plate out.

Remove the smaller ribbon cable connected to the main circuit board to disable the volume control buttons on the soundbar.

Put everything back together and turn the TV and soundbar on.

Now check if the volume issue persists even after disconnecting the volume controls.

Contact Support

If your Samsung Soundbar is still showing issues even after trying everything I have mentioned in the sections above, don’t hesitate to contact Samsung support.

They’ll be able to help you further once they know what model of TV and soundbar you have.

Final Thoughts

If you have your soundbar connected to your Samsung TV, but there’s no audio being output, make sure that the volume is set up.

You can also check your speaker systems and soundbar connections and make sure they all look fine and are connected properly to their ports.

Most audio issues can be fixed by rebooting the audio system or the TV itself, so try that before going for any other troubleshooting step.
