Evening all, first post so probably indentifiable as a beginner !
Hi, My first post too.
I have exactly the same problem. 2015 disco with 28k.
Did you manage to find a solution?

Hi Gary, had my Disco 2015 for past 12 months, the ECO symbol with the arrow on the dashboard has just started coming on over the last couple of days, I’ve plugged a voltage reader into the cigarette lighter and shows it’s only charging just over 12volts when it comes on, other than that it’s at 14volts when running normal, its still under warranty and will be going in for a service in a couple of weeks so will let you know their findings.
Hi Gents, did any of you manage to fix this ? I have the same issue albeit the light comes on intermittently, thanks..
Gents, I can’t get more than 10.5 volts out of the stop start battery so I’m going to change it - does anybody know if you can fit at home without needing any diagnostic to get it to work again ?
To close this out I simply fitted a new aux battery bought on line for £45. Its. A simple replacement and the ECO dash warning light is now finally out without any need for any dealer diagnostic computers etc..
Good result. Thanks for posting.
Hi. I think I also need a replacement battery but my local garage seemed to be struggling to source one. Can you share a link of what you bought online?

Hi Deano, can you confirm if yours is a LR4? Also where is the auxiliary battery that the Start Stop uses? Thanks
Please will someone tell me if it matters if this light is on permanently? Its started intermittently a month or two back and is now on full time. Do I really need to spend £40..0 on an auxillary battery just to make it go out?

A lot of expensive technology that is not very practical.
I am due an MOT at the end of the month. I have the eco warning light permanently. Will it fail because of this? I suspect yes, but just asking!
I have the same issue, just purchased a battery from Tanya batteries, it’s an Exide EK151 auxiliary car battery. £40.27 which includes VAT and delivery. The aux battery is on the lefthand side , under the large black plastic cover. Hope this helps.

Hi .Is that driver side or passenger side? Also do you if it a simple battery replacement or is there any resetting involved?
alas mine being a D3 the D4 still has covers on both sides , like what @Big Sandy mentions ref master cyl so as u look at the picture , right hand side will be ur main battery , left hand side where the master cyl is will also be where ur other Aux battery is as far as I’m aware u need diagnostics to reset the battery module when fitting a new battery on a D4hope that helps

Try pressing the ECO button.
Had the same issues, spent ages trying to find someone (including LR customer services) where the aux battery is. On the Disco 5 it's in the boot behind the side liner.
If you stand at the front of the car looking at it, right hand drive vehicle, the main large battery is on the right at the rear of the engine bay, near side. In the same location on the left side, off side, there is another plastic cover. carefully unclip the two clips at the front, you'll need to force your finger down the narrow gap between the housing you are trying to remove & the air filter box (I think). Under the cover you will see the brake master cylinder & at the front under a flimsy grey polystyrene cover is the battery. This is only a small battery when compared to the main one on the opposite side, approx 150mm long.
You will need a socket set with an extension arm to release the clamp (10mm'ish if I recall). Remove the battery, un-plug the vent pipe (keep to re-attach to the new battery), install new battery, vent, clamp, jacket etc. Re fix the cover &, if like mine should work perfectly with no re-setting.

It seems this issue is not restricted to LR cars. I was reading up on PHEVs and a number of other makes have the same problem. My understanding is that the charge for the high voltage battery does not also provide a 12v charge to the aux battery, this is only charged off the engine. This means that the engine starts to bring the aux battery up before the car will set off, it also means that the aux battery deteriorates as it is in a low state of charge for long periods.
Hi, just replaced my stopstart battery, but the warning light remains on. Does it need resetting? 2016 D4.
I think it does @Nigelblandin From memory, the system has to be told to recognise it so it charges.
Just how you do that, I don’t know. Plug a computer in, no doubt.
Thanks Sandy, I tried the old “Disconnect the earth lead on the main battery” trick…And it worked!
That’s a score! Worth remembering for future reference.
I’ve done the disconnect both leads from battery and touch together to clear an ecu fault in the past. Kind of amazed it worked…not on a LR product though. |
