Facebook provides a feature called offline, which show us offline on Facebook when we are login already. It is frustrating when we get messages on Facebook from those people to whom we don't want to talk to. For this purpose, Facebook provides a way through which we appear online to only those friends with whom we want to chat with.
In simple words, we will use this feature when we don't want to get disturbed with the messages on Facebook. For this, we set our active status to unavailable and appear offline.
On the web, Facebook has two different instant messaging features, i.e., Facebook Messenger and Facebook Chat. We can set our active status to both of these messaging features. These are the following ways to appear offline on Facebook:
Desktop:
1) Login to Facebook account
Firstly, we will open the Facebook official website by pasting the //www.facebook.com/ in the address bar of our preferred web browser. If we are already logged into Facebook, we will directly reach the News Feed page. But if we are not login, then we have to enter the username, phone number, and email address, followed by the password in the given tab.
2) Open Facebook Messenger
Next, we will open the Facebook messenger in the browser. To open the Facebook messenger:
1) We will tap on the messenger icon located in the middle of the menu bar. This tap will open the chatbox, which contains the chat, which we have done recently.
2) Next, we will click on the Sell all in Messenger link below the chatbox. This click will show all the chats in the messenger.
3) Click on the Gear icon.
We will click on the Gear icon that will basically define the setting. After clicking on the gear icon, a list of options will be visible regarding our messenger.
4) Click on the Settings option.
We will click on the Settings option from the list of options. This click will open the Settings pop-up on messenger.
5) Turn off the active status.
From the pop-up box, we will set the Active Status to off and click on the Done at the top right corner of the pop-up to save the changes in the messenger. Now our active status will be shown offline.
Turn off the active status using the chat window
We can also turn off our active status by using a chat window. These are the following steps used to turn off the active status using the chat window:
1) Click on the gear icon.
We will click on the gear icon located at the top-right corner of the chat window. This click will open a list of options regarding the chat or messages.
2) Click on the Turn Off Active Status
At last, we will click on the Turn Off Active Status option from the list of options. This click will open a pop-up having three options.
3) Select an option
Now, we will choose whether we want to turn off active status for all contacts, for only some contacts or all contacts expect someone, and after selecting one, we will click on the ok button of the pop-up to save the changes in Facebook.
Mobile App:
The process of appearing offline on the Facebook app is the same as the process of appearing offline on Facebook Messenger(Desktop). These are the following steps used to appear offline on the Facebook app:
1) Login into Facebook Account
Firstly, we will launch the Facebook app. By doing this, we will directly reach the News Feed page. But if we are not login, then we have to enter the username, phone number, and email address, followed by the password in the given tab.
2) Go to Messenger
We will go to the messenger by clicking on the messenger icon at the top-right corner of the Facebook page.
3) Go to the menu
Now, we will click on the profile to go to the messenger menu. This click will open the menu page, which contains several options like dark mode, message request, active status, etc.
4) Click on the Active Status
We will tap on the Active Status option to turn it off.
5) Turn off the Show when you're active
We will turn off the Show when you're active. This click will get the confirmation from us. We will give the confirmation by clicking on the TURN OFF button of the confirmation box.
